The Moncton CyberSocial, in collaboration with Southeast NB Industry Education Council, is pleased to present Angel Den 2016 on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Centre des arts et de la culture de Dieppe (CACD) from 12 noon to 5 pm followed by the Cybersocial networking meet and greet from 5 pm to 8 pm.
The Angel Den and the CyberSocial are long standing events in Moncton dedicated to creating better understanding for the local business community about how successful information and communication technology (ICT) companies are created and built up through early stages to lucrative exits in mergers or acquisition. New Brunswick has had its fair share of major success stories in technology and we expect to see more of this. The Angel Den will give great insight in to how all of this happens.
This year the Angel Den will feature an industry showcase starting at noon in a mini-tradeshow format in the atrium of the Arts Centre where cool tech start-ups, prospective start-ups, innovative local tech companies and established enterprises with key ICT problems will be seeking business opportunities.
The Angel Den will also present an overview of an increasing trend to Intra-preneurship where new innovative start-ups are spun out of larger corporations with equity from the parent and Venture Capital investment from private sector sources or collaboration from a larger corporation with a new smaller company leads to a new technology that can be broadly adopted. Real examples from New Brunswick that may represent the next high growth company will be profiled by the persons that executed this process sharing their experiences. We hope the Angel Den will encourage added spin-offs in the future.
Major acquisitions of tech companies started and grown here in New Brunswick and in 2014 approximately $1 billion of transaction occurred in the ICT sector. The Angel Den will present key persons sharing their experiences around intra-preneurship and the creation of new innovative companies with big upside. You will hear from the people that did it.
The afternoon will also be highlighted by a start-up pitch session much like you see on TV. Real tech entrepreneurs will be pitching before a panel of judges and critics. It is really interesting to see how these enthusiastic stat-ups will sweat it out. There will be angel investors on the panel and in the audience as well as significant Venture Capital all present looking for opportunities for the next big one.
